Technical Services Division

Purpose: To ensure the mission statement of the SSU is met by providing and maintaining advanced technology SAR equipment and services. The TSD also provides the SSU’s divisions with flexible mobile B.C. wide communications solutions.

Concept: SAR trained personnel specialize in adapting advanced electronic search resources for use in SAR incidents and environments.

Overview: The members of TSD utilize unique custom built and off the shelf technologies and interface that equipment into the SAR function. These technologies range from computer systems to high voltage power supplies. TSD ensures all electronic systems are maintained in a state of readiness.

The TSD responsibilities include:

  • All means of electronic transmission [VHF, UHF, video, data, etc.]
  • Remote sensing [video, GPR, detectors, Thermal Imagers, etc.]
  • Power systems [generators, power packs, inverters, etc.]
  • Vehicle readiness [trucks, marine craft, trailers]
  • Equipment conversion [SAR adaptations, power, etc.]
  • Equipment interfacing [training, SOP creation]
  • Equipment procurement planning The TSD members are also responsible for any requests from outside agencies that require equipment for a SAR incident. TSD members ensure the devices are in a state of readiness and trained personnel are available for the device/s deployment.
