What to do if someone is lost

  • Contact Law Enforcement in the area where the person is reported missing
  • Collect recent photo of missing person
  • Law Enforcement will dispatch the local Search and Rescue Team
  • Be prepared to answer questions. The more information you can provide, the better for the SAR Team. Some questions may be difficult to answer but you need to answer them as openly and honestly as possible. The information you provide is confidential.
  • Be available to answer more questions as the search continues and identify items that may be found
  • Be patient. The teams that are responding to look for your loved one are well trained. It may seem like nothing is happening but there is alot going on behind the scenes and they are working hard to find your loved one.
  • Always keep someone at home in case the missing person returns or calls
  • Place photo and appeals on websites
  • Check Social Media
  • Check bank accounts for activity
  • Check bus/transit routes
  • With Police approval - ask local newspapers, television and radio for help
  • Contact friends and acquaintances
  • Contact hospitals
  • Put up flyers
  • If the search is not successful we may be able to help
